Bear Valley Conceptual Master Plan

Point Reyes National Seashore

A conceptual master plan was conceived together with the National Park Service and Point Reyes National Park Association.  Because of flooding issues from Bear Valley Creek in the heart of the Visitor Center Center and Administration area, the master plan was designed to improve parking layout and pedestrian circulation in anticipation of increasing water levels.  New flood control measures were proposed with pedestrian bridges, berms, retaining wall, and removal of culverts.  The plan also forms a more cohesive and functional entry and service area to the park.

Drakes Beach Visitor Center

and Parking Facility

Point Reyes National Seashore

Conceptual plan was developed for the Drakes Beach and Ken Patrick Visitor Center parking facility to improve entry character, parking configuration, beach/parking lot interface, and to restore beach and marsh habitat.

The existing paving area will be greatly reduced to expand freshwater wetlands and beach area.  The improved parking lot will be elevated by reusing existing paving material and will accommodate higher expected sea levels.  New boardwalk and bridge will provide pedestrian access to nearby overlooks and trails.
